Good day to you and a Happy New Year as well. Of course, I know it is February and we are more than 30 days into this new year. I can’t begin to express the delay in the next key so I will only present the next key! Thank you for taking the time out to read and support these writings. You have no idea how much it means to me to hear the encouraging words and the push that some of you give to me. I welcome you to another edition, well the first edition of 2024! Let’s jump right in and get to what the Lord has been dealing with in me.
Children rely solely on their parents for pretty much everything. We are responsible as parents to them to take care of them and their every need. As we get older, we learn to not rely on them as much but to do what we have been taught to do. Proverbs 22:6 reads “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” What does this have to do with humility? Well, Matthew 18:1-5 in summary, talks about the disciples came to Jesus asking, “Who is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Jesus then called a little child to Him and says to the disciples that “unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Then He also adds that “Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.” We can teach our children humility if we are humble. Ok that may have flown by a little too fast. Let’s make the connection our children depend on us to take care of them. Aren’t we supposed to depend on the Lord to do the same for us? If we are doing that, we are essentially teaching that to our children. As they grow older watching you depend on God shouldn’t that motivate/teach them to do the same? Shift keep dependence in your thoughts as we break down humility. Ok after reading through this I realized that this will be a series. See how the Lord shifted it? No I didn’t take this part out this is me and I think it is important for you to read the shift and how they relate. Ok getting back to humble and who your dependence is in.
Now most of us can define humble as being low or to take a lowly position. Now in your mind think about someone you look up to or have a high regard for. Now would you say that there are times in your life that you ask yourself this question what would (that person you just thought of) do in this situation or that situation? Or maybe you think about something they said to you that meant a lot and that thought/advice gets you through that situation you were in. Now I’m not saying that is the wrong way to think at all. Because I believe the Lord reminds us and uses those around us to do so. Preachers and teachers do this all the time if we listen! Here is what I’m saying, humility is realizing and responding to the fact that you live in complete dependance on the Lord. That right there should humble you every time! That you don’t do anything in and of your own self. Have you ever really tried to compare yourself to the Lord? Don’t you think that will cause you to take a low position? No matter what your title or position is at work, church, or anything you do, if you truly looked inside out and compared yourself to the Lord you would take a low position or be humble. If not then you are comparing yourself to yourself and that is not wise, that is another sermon separate from this blog. But let me point you in the direction of 2 Corinthians 10:12-14.
This Is how we become humble we compare ourselves to the Father and that puts us in a position of lowliness. The key is to not place yourself in the exalted position but in the low position. If your comparison is off you will place yourself in the exalted position but if your inside out comparison is compared to the Father it will hit different and you will place you in the lowest position. Lets travel to Luke 14:7-14 it reads So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the best places, saying to them: “When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him, and he who invited you and him come and say to you, ‘Give place to this man, ‘and then you begin with shame to take the lowest place. But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, “Friend, go up higher. ‘Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Exalting yourself brings humiliation which is a different form of humility that you don’t want.
Philippians 2:5-11
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore, God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name, which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
My God that is powerful to me! The thought of the Love, Obedience and Wisdom of Jesus, oh how humble! When God gives you understanding so simple, yet so deep. Humble is so much more than we realize it is and it is not what we make it to be. In closing I want to point you back to Matthew 18:4-5 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.
Father help whoever is reading this message, to have a Love for Your Word which will teach us how to be, and how to pray, to be obedient unto death like your Son Jesus and to fear you for it is the beginning of wisdom. Help us oh Lord to be LOW to take the LOWly position, to be in Christ your word says that if we are in Christ, we are a new creation, old things have passed away. We are no longer in our past ways, no longer do we depend on ourselves or anyone but you Oh Lord, we no longer exalt ourselves, but we take and accept and walk through the low door. It is in your Son Jesus name that I pray Amen.
